Qualcomm Quick Charge 5

Quick Charge 5 is the successor to Quick Charge 4.0/4+ and it is the world’s first commercially viable platform that will support insane 100W charging power on a smartphone. To give you some context, with Quick Charge 5 support, you can charge a 4,500mAh battery from 0 to 50-percent in just 5 minutes! And to charge it completely it will take less than 15 minutes. The charging is up to four times faster compared to the Quick Charge 4. To implement this, it supports 2S batteries and 20 volts of power delivery, so you will be seeing two batteries in upcoming smartphones that will be connected om series. And it also runs 10 degrees Celsius cooler than Quick Charge 4. Quick Charge 5 is optimized to take advantage of both USB-PD and Type-C technology. This helps the technology to generate 100W charging capabilities functions within the same footprint as the 45W charging solution. It is also supported by Qualcomm’s Battery Saver and Smart Identification of Adapter Capabilities that will help to extend the battery life a little more. The good news is that the smartphones with Snapdragon 865 and 865+ already support Quick Charge 5 and all the premium and flagship chipsets from Qualcomm will also support the same. Currently, Qualcomm is testing this new technology and we shall see it implemented fully by the third quarter of 2020.
